On the path to becoming a Legal Finance Manager?

If you're in Legal Finance, you could be waiting a long, long time for something like this to come around. Having worked in the sector myself I understand the frustrations of not being able to move up the chain of command, or that you feel under-utilised in your role. Most managers or senior finance people have been in their jobs for a long time and are not looking to move anytime soon. And why would they? Law firms are great places to work with strong salary levels and excellent benefits and if you've built your reputation at a firm over a period of time, it's unlikely you're going to leave that behind. But where does that leave you, and your career aspirations?

Well this new and exciting opportunity will allow you to move into a senior finance role and to use your knowledge and skills gained to really make a mark, with a mind-set for future change to ensure greater compliance and development of current and new systems. You will be responsible for developing other members of the team in terms of training and mentoring, which is always as rewarding aspect of a role at this level - this really does have everything you are looking for in a new challenge.

Day to day you will oversee the running of the Accounts Payable function, and will be expected to get your hands dirty with the 'processing' side of things from time to time. There are also more technical elements to this; assisting with annual budgets and management accounts, monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reviews. The firm are soon going to be implementing a new practice management system, so there will also be plenty of project-based work to get your teeth into!

The firm in question is one we know well, having successfully placed with them over the past few years. Their London office has grown considerably over that period, with high profile acquisitions from other law firms, and so many of the roles we have worked on have been new hires within the team - you can now be part of that growth.
