Our Role:

SSE Enterprise Utilities designs, builds and owns electricity, gas, heat and water networks for residential and commercial developments throughout the UK ranging from small domestic housing developments and shopping centres to large commercial retail and industrial parks. We currently have a fantastic new opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager to join our team in the South East of England.

Within the role of Senior Contracts Manager you'll drive contract management best practices across the Utilities Team, focused on the delivery of services of Enterprise Utilities to Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) and Joint Venture (JV) structures, and negotiate settlements and variations with Developers. You'll ensure the obligations under project agreement are met in regards to the delivery of Distributed Energy and large Utilities Networks projects.

You'll be responsible for supporting the adoption and operation of Distributed Energy and Utilities Networks projects through the management of subcontractors and other contractual agreements. You'll work closely with the Project Managers, O&M, Operations, Commercial and Legal Teams to ensure that the projects and Utilities Networks run smoothly and are delivered in accordance with the contractual agreements in place, on time and to budget. You'll ensure the Directors understand the obligations attributable to their business, and know how to discharge them.

Furthermore you'll be responsible for managing and motivating a team of Contract Managers to ensure the business needs are met, and influence senior stakeholders in Utilities, developing appropriate commercial strategies to support broad range of business requirements. This will include overseeing the delivery of Contractual obligations for circa £50m+ revenue (increasing year on year).

Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate for this role will already have a demonstrable understanding of Distributed Energy, Utilities Networks, and the Energy industry ideally gained in an operational and/or commercial environment. You'll have a sound understanding of Contract Law and detailed knowledge of the M&E, Energy Services, and O&M for the Energy industry. Extensive knowledge of procurement policies, business requirements and relevant regulation to continuously improve procedures would be highly advantageous.

In addition, you should have a background as a contracts manager or contracts negotiator and a Degree in law or contract management would be advantageous, but is not essential. As an individual you'll display excellent commercial acumen and strong negotiation skills to deal with suppliers and customers and must have an ability to influence and resolve conflict with internal stakeholders.

You'll have an ability to network, internally/externally to facilitate the delivery of contractual obligations and a proven background in negotiating and drafting commercial contracts. Strong Project Management skills and proven track record of project work are required as well as an ability to set up, track, and report on KPIs, resolving any issues and escalate when required.

Strong IT, experience working with databases and Microsoft Office packages to conduct analysis and reporting of performance, and formal presentations is desirable as is experience working on-site (e.g. construction sites, energy centres) and in a customer driven environment.
