Associate Commercial Practitioner – Category Officer
£28,655 - £31,464

Manchester, Coventry, Darlington & Sheffield

At the Department for Education, we’re responsible for providing children and young people with the lifelong learning they deserve. It’s a passion that’s fuelling positive change as we aim to build a world-class commercial directorate and enhance our workforce with fresh talent. With a commercial category spend of £6.4bn, we’re working on complex, high-value contracts that will create tangible results for schools, colleges and universities across the country. Perhaps you’ll have the skills and ambition we need to join us.

As an Associate Commercial Practitioner, your main responsibility will be delivering multiple commercial activities. This means you’ll follow all aspects of the project’s lifecycle, including pre-market engagement, contract award and management. To prepare activities, you’ll oversee tender documentation, evaluation guidance and procurements, ensuring that high standards are met. In addition, you’ll build relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure the pipeline of requirements and targets are met. And, you’ll constantly seek out opportunities to remove waste to deliver value for money.

It’s a challenging role as you’ll manage activities simultaneously, so multitasking and experience in project management are a must. As well as this, to build and manage relations with customers and internal stakeholders, you’ll need excellent communication skills – both orally and in writing. And, to stop problems from escalating, you’ll use your eye for detail to identify operational and process problems so they can be resolved quickly.

If you’d like to join the DfE at this exciting time, please apply by visiting our website.
