About the Foreign & Commonwealth Office

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is one of the most exciting and challenging global organisations in the world, operating in more than 260 locations across 168 countries. Sourcing the right suppliers to support our organisation is imperative to our success. Our Commercial team manages everything here, from market creation and warming through to procurement and supplier relationships. The Commercial function is going through a period of transformation to increase our effectiveness at delivering great commercial outcomes. Central to this is a strategic and innovative commercial approach; leveraging internal and market expertise and judgement. We are looking for the best professional talent to join us in our transformation journey, help us build on our success and further enhance our capacity and capability.

The role of Commercial Adviser

Based in London, this essential role will see you drive value across the FCO’s various procurement categories, including Estates, Security, Facilities Management, Overseas Development, and Professional & Corporate Services. Working with a specific programme team, you will develop and deliver robust, compliant and value-adding procurement approaches. Using your initiative and creativity, you will implement solutions which make savings or increase effectiveness. You will work collaboratively with project owners and managers from other government departments, such as Department for International Development and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). You will be required to communicate commercial advice to customers. This role is a great opportunity that will see you develop valuable project management and commercial expertise, as you become a commercial expert on procurement implementation in your programme team.

Travel across the UK and potentially overseas may occasionally be required.

About you

You will have a solid track record in procurement, either in the public or private sector, and a good understanding of procurement processes, including Public Contract Regulations 2015, underpinned by market knowledge. You will have strong communication and influencing skills, with proven experience in stakeholder management. An eye for detail and a talent for multitasking are essential.
