Job Title:Field Operations Manager

Reporting to: Field Operations Program Manager

Location: OXITEC Limited, Milton Park, Abingdon

Salary range: £55,000 - £85,000 depending on experience and skills

Purpose of the job

Oxitec is a pioneer in controlling insects that spread disease and damage crops. Through world-class science it is tackling the major global challenges of keeping people healthy and increasing food production and it is doing so in a way that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

The role of the Field Operations Manager is to lead and manage field-based projects and field data, potentially to include broader activities such as in-country stakeholder engagement and coordination with UK teams. This role will have technical background in public health and/or agriculture, and an understanding of biotech in that context. This position will require strong people skills and a team ethic, as well as proactive communication with stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes. This person will work closely with other Oxitec Divisions in the UK and overseas and may be required to travel overseas. Duties include project management, data analysis, mapping and modelling, ensuring that studies are completed as planned and reports are delivered on time.

Responsibilities

The Field Operations Manager will:

- Develop and elaborate project work streams with strategic direction from Divisional Heads;

- Engage effectively across Divisions to ensure project goals are met;

- Evaluate and manage project performance, assuring a high standard of work and productivity across the team;

- Generate documents (presentations, reports, etc.) suitable for internal management review;

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the other teams;

- Report progress both formally and informally in a timely and comprehensible manner, tailored to the stated audience (both internal and external);

- Be responsible for robust sharing of knowledge within the group and other teams as required;

- Conduct external engagement, with collaborators and research partners, and communications with other stakeholders and the media.

Key Qualifications and Skills

- Knowledge of Power BI data management tools including basic predictive modelling;

- Ability to place priorities within the broader company context;

- Able to work successfully within a complex matrix environment;

- Have a creative approach to problem-solving and the development of solutions;

- Excellent analytical skills;

- Ability to work both independently and within a team;

- Excellent stakeholder management skills, both internal and external;

- Demonstrate the ability to challenge, build credibility, and work with integrity at all levels within the organization;

- Fluent speaker of English;

- Educated to Masters or PhD level (preferred);

- Post-graduate experience in a relevant discipline (required).

Key Experience

- Technical expertise in Vector control for Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes

- Experience of project management in a public health (essential) and agricultural (ideally) environment;

- Expertise in GIS including Arc GIS and AGOL;

- A sound technical understanding of genetic technologies and their application in the vector control arena;

- Proven track record of working with senior managers and external collaborators and stakeholders;

- Demonstrated project management successes.
