Reed Accountancy are currently recruiting exclusively for a Head of Operations and Business development for this well-known 3rd sector organisation.

Your new role will be to lead, develop and manage their operational, administrative and financial management systems. You will also lead the trading operations, being responsible for its commercial strategy development & performance

Reporting to the Chief Executive, and wider Senior Leadership Team, you will play a significant role in the future development by providing high-quality strategic advice to the Board of Trustees and leading on relevant strategic themes and values.

This role will suit an experienced accounts professional who has branched out into the operational side of a business or vice versa. Ideally you will have charity or 3rd sector experience but the client is open minded to consider other industries.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Financial and operational management

• Lead, develop and manage the Operations and Business Development function, ensuring effective and efficient delivery.
• To be responsible for ensuring that internal finance controls and records are maintained throughout the organisation in accordance with legislation and best practice, ensuring all statutory reporting duties are met and liaising with relevant external organisations as required.
• To be responsible for developing the organisation’s financial strategy, ensuring the effective use of budget planning, management and performance reports.
• To keep up to date with changes in Accounting Principles & Guidance and embedding changes into procedures and practice.
• Responsible for developing HR and Health & Safety policies, procedures and practices that support the whole organisation and ensure it meets its statutory obligations at all times.
• Responsible for ensuring the relevant insurance policies are in place, managing the service agreement with the relevant provider.
• To be responsible for the overall management of the company vehicles.

Leadership

• Support the transformation of the organisation by working closely with leaders, trustees and other relevant stakeholders or partner organisations.
• To contribute to the development of our strategic ambitions and their effective delivery
• Be an effective member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing advice and information to ensure the effective delivery of our activities.
• Create a learning culture that is committed to continuous improvement, challenging the status quo and driving forward change.
• Support and mentor colleagues to ensure they have appropriate support to deliver their objectives.
• Lead activities and projects across the organisation, ensuring collaboration between teams.
• Build effective working relationships with local regional and national partners that further the reputation of the organisation
• Lead on strategic projects and cross organisational service improvement programmes as required.
• Lead on transformational change to enable the effective delivery of strategy, through the delivery of high-quality student-focused activities.
• Be accountable for budgets, working with the CEO to ensure robust reporting and management of organisational finances.
• Lead the development of an organisation-wide approach to business planning, objective setting and performance management.
• Develop a culture of effective information analysis to support strategic decision making.
• To ensure that fairness, respect, equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the organisation at all times; contributing to the role and reputation as Leaders in Diversity.

The ideal you

• Educated to degree standard or equivalent
• AAT Accounting Qualification or equivalent
• Evidence of continued professional and personal development
• Knowledge of SORP accounting practices, VAT legislation, Data Protection, Health & Safety legislation, employment law and best practice in personal development
• Experience of developing and managing financial systems and controls
• Experience in budget planning, accounts management and financial analysis
• Experience of developing challenging performance targets, and supporting teams to deliver against those
• Experience of people management, especially high performing teams
• Demonstrated success developing and monitoring performance management systems to manage both operatio
