Job Purpose:

The Apprenticeship Development Coach (DC) is responsible for the delivery of the coaching and mentoring elements of apprenticeship programmes. Ensuring timely achievement to a range of learners of different age ranges, the DC will be responsible for preparing candidates for their relevant End Point Assessment (EPA). The role will include high quality coaching support, assessment planning, monitoring and formal reviewing of the candidate's progress towards meeting the apprenticeship programme. The DC is required to manage the training and development of a caseload of candidates.

The role will involve travel to a range of employer premises to coach and assess candidates.

The DC will carry out the initial assessment process by effective planning and reviewing of the candidates' prior achievements, training needs and employer needs. All of which must be updated regularly on an individualised learning plan. The DC will be required to use e-portfolio and the updating of candidate progress on the learning management system (LMS).

The role includes training groups of learners with Functional Skills requirements (English, maths and ICT) and also other workshops in line with training requirements.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are in place for this job role. DC's are required to meet quality standards and achievement of targets set by the company, performance is monitored as part of the organisations quality assurance arrangements

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the initial assessment process is completed to the company standard and evidence provided to support candidate file and funding audits.
  • Ensure all candidates on caseload complete the apprenticeship programme and are ready for their relevant EPA, this includes meeting targets set on the learning plan, Functional Skills, Technical/Vendor qualifications, Workshop Attendance, e-learning modules and any candidate documentation required.
  • Work with candidates to complete the apprenticeship programme by using technology including electronic portfolio and e-learning resources.
  • Develop a programme of development and assessment, setting realistic but challenging goals that meet learners' and employers' needs
  • Give timely feedback on progress towards mastery of relevant skills and knowledge
  • Identify, plan and record on the Individual Learning Plan all training, coaching, assessment, support and achievement for all candidates on caseload in accordance with the operations manual
  • Maintain a maximum caseload of 90 candidates
  • Maintain regular contact with all candidates in line with company guidelines ensuring all non-visits or contact is documented and reported to the Operations Manager
  • Complete all relevant paperwork in accordance with the Operations Manual
  • Ensure all candidates receive a formal review of their progress every 12 weeks involving the candidate, and their line manager. Ensure review complies with company standard and quality, and evidenced in candidate file in their e-portfolio
  • Ensure that health and safety checks are completed for every year in accordance with the operations manual and at the agreed level of frequency for the placement and sector
  • Contribute to the Internal Quality Assurance Process
  • Effectively co-ordinate each candidates programme ensuring that training needs are discussed and appropriate opportunities planned with the work-based supervisor. Arrange for candidates to attend planned training at the relevant centre/other local training site
  • Maintain the currency of their own knowledge and skills, with reference to workplace practice and feedback from others
  • Deliver aspects of the training required including Functional Skills and other workshops as required by the company

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have practical vocational work experience in relevant sectors
  • Must have sector competency and experience across a number of Frameworks and Standards (e.g. from Level 2 to Higher Apprenticeships)
  • Must hold A1 Assessor award, or equivalent and Teaching Qualifications - minimum PTLLS / AET /
  • Must hold Certificate in Teaching Qualification from the University of Ulster or be working towards this within the next 2 years
  • Minimum Level 2 Functional/Essential Skills in ITC, English and Maths
  • Up to date and relevant CPD record
  • Soft Skills training background e.g. communication, team building (basically behaviours)
  • Must be able to deliver Level 4 (in any qualification)

At least 5 years' experience in relevant sector/s

A proven track record of demonstrating learner development in a work based setting

Experience of implementing strategies for inspiring learners, increasing their resilience in overcoming barriers and obstacles, and in raising concerns

Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of current coaching practice for areas occupationally competent to deliver
  • Thorough understanding of the current apprenticeship system and the impact of recent changes in the sector
  • Good knowledge of QCF frameworks and general understanding of the funding requirements for work based learning
  • Good knowledge of current thinking in work-based learning
  • Good knowledge of functional skills
