I've partnered up with a market leading distributor, who supply a wide range of products into a vast amount of retailers across the UK, as they look to strengthen their purchasing function by recruiting an Assistant Buyer.

Description

As the Assistant Buyer you will be responsible for the following:

  • Work closely with the Senior Buyer to manage products through set up and into the business.
  • Ensure the correct range of products are available to the business with the best price.
  • With the support of the Senior Buyer, negotiate effectively, primarily around terms and product range.
  • Maintain accurate range information enabling the team to make effective commercial decisions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly reports.
  • Proactively source suppliers and product.
  • Maintain and build relationships with suppliers in order to form a partnership approach;
  • Be involved with the set-up of new suppliers, ensuring all paperwork is filled in and returned in a timely manner
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to keep them informed of developments in product range and availability.
  • Ensure internal departments are made aware of any stock availability issues and changes to product.
  • Conduct price and range comparisons to ensure the company remains competitive.
  • Manage the cost, sales, margins and range of your assigned categories.
  • Attend and partake in trade shows.

Profile

The successful candidate for the Assistant Buyer role will ideally have the following key skills and qualities:

  • Experience in a Buying or Supply Chain Role
  • Experience of sourcing brands and product ranges
  • Competent in the use of MS Excel (formulas, pivots, etc.)
  • Degree qualified - preferably in a Business or Supply Chain related subject.
  • Effective communicator with an ability to engage internal and external stakeholders
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Capable of working unsupervised and use own initiative.
  • Have strong numerical skills, ability to work accurately with data
  • Effective team-worker - understanding and responding to the needs of others
