We have a fantastic opportunity within our Procurement team for a Senior Capex & Services Buyer. This role will support sourcing opportunities and negotiation of terms & conditions for manufacturing facilities within the ASR Group.

ABOUT US

We are Tate & Lyle Sugars part of the ASR Group, our companies have more than 150 years of experience taking sugar cane from the field to the table. Our expertise in every aspect of the cane sugar process is without equal. We are the largest vertically integrated cane sugar refiner in the world. Our nine refineries are found in five countries across the globe and collectively can produce more than six million tons of sugar. We also own and operate sugar mills in the United States, Mexico and Belize. This position is based at our iconic Thames Refinery in East London.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting role, which requires the post holder to manage our UK capital projects for the procurement team. Responsible for developing and implementing ASR’s purchasing strategy through effective vendor relationship management, contract and project management, and management of suppliers and their capabilities. The Sr. CapEx and Services Buyer will be required to work well in a team environment, have the ability to handle a large order volume while following specific process requirements, and maintain positive business relationships with both internal and external customers. The incumbent must be able to travel up to 25% of the time; travel will be assigned based on the current needs of the business but the intent is to leverage technology (teleconference, videoconference, etc.) to minimize the travel requirements.

Other duties Include:

  • Ability to successfully negotiate price, terms, delivery, and volume levels with suppliers
  • Research and evaluate global suppliers based on price, quality, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, reputation, financial status, and history
  • Develop and actively manage project procurement plans
  • Collaborate on specification and scope documents, review requisitions for goods and services, solicit proposals, and perform commercial evaluations
  • Ability to anticipate issues, perform independent/critical needs analysis, and take corrective actions resulting in thorough and effective solutions
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel, Project, and Word)
  • Ability to work in a transactional, large volume, deadline driven purchasing environment
  • Ability to work with changing market conditions, incomplete information, and make decisions in the best interests of the business

ABOUT YOU

You will have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field plus experience in applicable capital equipment, plant operations, plant services, manufacturing, and/or purchasing experience. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully handle contract negotiations, pricing analysis, and markets forecasting. Excellent leadership and strategic thinking skills with a solid understanding/experience with packaging equipment procurement.

Additional skills:

  • Must have a solid understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership)
  • Experience with purchasing on an ERP system.
  • Ability to provide a superior level of customer service and follow up on a variety of issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external members of the Supply Chain
  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to all audience levels up to C-suite
  • Ability to work in an industrial/plant setting including functioning in factory operating areas

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Strong background in capital equipment, industrial services, and/or project purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Operations, project, and/or maintenance experience in the category
  • Strong understanding of project management
  • Background in a manufacturing environment, preferably with food and/or beverage blending and packaging
  • Contract negotiations and contract management experience
  • Ability to read and work with (but not generate) CAD drawings and technical specifications
