An ECO Buyer required on a contract basis to join an industry leading manufacturing business.

Purpose of Role:

Support the company's ECO process and Indirect spend category; notably managing the engineering change process within the purchasing function, and supporting the wider business environment reference managing New Product Introduction programs and other major projects within the area.

Working with the broader purchasing team, and organisation to ensure actions and requirements are communicated effectively departmentally and interdepartmentally, and in a timely manner to ensure that the company is successful in product development and special project launch. Manage administration function with the Purchasing team related to Indirect spend category to ensure supplier accounts are maintained and service levels are achieved in line with internal customer expectations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To manage the Engineering Change (ECO) process, ensuring that engineering changes when received are distributed and actioned in a timely manner within the team, and feedback provided to the wider organisation
  • Evaluating and the implementation of standard engineering changes relating to existing parts are the responsibility of the ECO Buyer; working in conjunction with existing supply chains and the responsible Senior Buyer to ensure the optimisation of service levels and procurement parameter's (cost, moq, pack size lead time etc), utilising a total Cost of Ownership approach
  • Managing the review and closure of non-standard engineering changes within the procurement team; where new parts are introduced identifying requirements to the responsible Senior Buyer, supporting / driving the timely closure of the engineering change and ensuring business wide communication
  • Develop current ECO reporting structure to ensure transparent reporting of milestone events within the department to ensure timely completion of ECO's and the early highlighting of potential concerns
  • Utilise the opportunity provided by working with the team cross functionally to develop technical procurement skills including manufacturing methodologies etc.
  • Setting up of part numbers on TMS to ensure timely handover to the Logistics team for new part number introduction, negotiating and changing system prices where applicable
  • Ensure bridge stock is implemented to cover initial lead time
  • Ensure any related invoice queries are closed within 3 days of receipt
  • Data integrity - support the business data integrity reporting requirements
  • Supplier performance management - ensure that where samples are ordered delivery dates, product quality, and cost etc is managed effectively
  • Challenge and mitigate/negate cost increases related to ECO changes where possible
  • Working with Design Engineers to understand ECO's and associated drawings for effective communication to the wider team
  • Represent the Purchasing team and feedback actions reference weekly ECO/ECR meetings
  • Manage day to day indirect spend category i.e. ordering of product and services, negotiating cost reductions and ensuring service levels are optimised.

Education and Training

Desirable:

  • HNC/Previous Experience is Essential

Essential:

  • Previous proven experience within a logistics/purchasing arena.

Experience

Desirable:

  • Previous responsibility for appropriate budgets/supplier relationships

Essential:

  • Previous experience of purchasing within an engineering/ manufacturing environment

Key Skills

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of the use of Oracle software system
  • Experience in global sourcing

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven record of cost reductions
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, JIT and KanBan
  • Understand Purchasing Contractual Law
  • Ability to control and improve cost of materials whilst maintaining integrity
  • Negotiation and Project Management Skills
  • Good PC Skills and the use of Microsoft Excel/ Power Point
