Senior Product Developer / Buyer, gift & stationery

Location: Edinburgh (Commutable from Dunfermline or Sterling)

Hours: 9am-5pm

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Developer / Product Manager to work with a really lovely and fast-growing brand based in fabulous Central Edinburgh. This innovative and forward-thinking company love designing and creating inspiring and design-driven gift and stationery products that bring joy and pleasure to all daily organisational and administrative tasks!

Directly selling their products to consumers via their website alongside supplying to well-known high street multiples such as John Lewis and Waterstones and online retailers including Amazon.

This position requires a strategic thinker with outstanding leadership skills who has passion and creative flair in abundance.

You will be thought of as the 'go-to’ Senior member of the management team - facilitating the product team and managing the critical path and product quality each season. You will be responsible for driving the development of clever new products and features into company ranges, and fully understanding both the consumer and competitors.

Responsibilities in a typical day of this Senior Product Developer role:

  • Facilitating and supporting a product team of six people
  • Guiding on structure of ranges, content and 'look’ to meet the needs of the consumers
  • Developing a concise and detailed understanding of the company’s target consumer profiles and promoting across the business
  • Identifying opportunities and creating and delivering a strategy which will drive 'clever’ and exciting new products into the ranges
  • Overseeing all market and competitor research and applying relevant findings into ranges
  • Responsibility for understanding and adopting the correct trend and market analysis
  • Setting aims and objectives across product area seasonally
  • Guardian of the company brand across all products and ranges
  • Responsibility for creating the critical path seasonally and meeting all key product development deadlines
  • Leading and directing workload within the design and production teams
  • Responsibility for ensuring quality control and sign offs on all product and packaging
  • Overseeing proof reading and copywriting processes
  • Understanding the sales team’s needs for selling tools
  • Liaising with production and sales teams when finalising retail pricing
  • Attending sales account meetings as required
  • Communicating closely with production to understand costs, margins, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Supporting the sourcing of new products and suppliers where required (working closely with Production team)
  • Signing off on briefs for design and production department and external freelancers as required
  • Identifying and heading up development projects as required and reporting to directors on progress
  • Attendance at monthly management meetings and creation of monthly report
  • Setting and managing product budget, reforecasting as required and ensuring a ROI
  • Travel: Potential sourcing trips required, competitor shopping and trade show visits (UK and abroad)

The ideal Senior Product Developer / Buyer will be/have:

  • 5+ years in a similar role
  • Passionate and excited about product development
  • A natural ability to offer clear direction
  • A visionary and strategic thinker being able to plan both 1 and 3 years ahead
  • Have an organised and calming influence on the team, generating confidence in others
  • Ability to drive projects forward and be comfortable with teamwork
  • A proven track record of creating and facilitating successful product strategy and initiatives to drive growth
  • Proven experience of spotting and acting upon interesting opportunities
  • Experienced in using consumer and competitor research to successfully influence decisions on ranges
  • Solid knowledge and experience of managing 3D product design
  • Ability to think innovatively to deliver outstanding results
  • Be trend aware
  • Passionate ambassador of the brand ethos across all product ranges
  • Proven leadership and experience within a senior management role
  • Inspiring by nature with ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • A positive, go-to person with a can-do (and will-do) attitude
  • Ability to multi task across different projects
  • Experience in a consumer product area ideal (stationery or gift sector would a bonus but not a necessity)
