Project Buyer, manufacturing

My client are a leading design and manufacturing business of 30 years who pay exceptional attention to the development of the highest quality products.  They develop advanced solutions and export to over 40 countries worldwide.

The role of Project Buyer will work very closely with suppliers and engineering teams and act as liaison ensuring non-disclosure agreements are signed and with selected suppliers meetings are arranged to discuss cost reduction initiatives.

Your role will be responsible for analysing competitive quotes and selecting suppliers for new products in conjunction with the design team.  You will take responsibility for supplier performance and will track supply risk that might affect project delivery schedules and will communicate any issues to relevant internal teams (incl. any associated costs). 

Your new role will track tooling schedules to ensure the projects can be met and will ensure the production of new products is achieved with minimal lead-time and with minimum obsolescence. 

You will develop and implement cost reduction projects under the direction of the purchasing team leader within the scope of the existing supply (including renegotiation, value engineering, supplier development and supplier rationalisation/aggregation).

To be successful in this role you will display solid experience as a buyer / senior buyer within a manufacturing environment that develops technical electronically focused solutions. 

You will demonstrate a keen eye for detail and a proven analytical approach in analysing quotes to select suppliers to deliver on a project by project basis.

As an organised and effective communicator you will be able to manage supplier delivery that tracks on target to deliver the wider project in a timely and efficient manner to your customers.

You will be able to diagnose operation problems with suppliers and identify solutions and implement improvement plans.

It is essential to have in-depth knowledge of supply chain techniques and delivery/order mechanisms and computerised manufacturing systems (Kanban/MRP/eProcurement).

It is also essential to demonstrate a strong understanding of inventory management techniques to ensure a lean level of stock holding.
