The Organisation

In Kind Direct has been a pioneer of product giving for social good for 21 years, the leading UK authority in the consumer product-giving sector, with a growing international network.

Their model, based on a visionary idea of Founder, HRH The Prince of Wales, involves manufacturers and retailers donating their new, surplus consumer products to us, and in turn, using an integrated ecommerce platform, they distribute the products to the doors of charities; supporting more than 9,000 so far. From essential toiletries and cleaning supplies to office and sports equipment, cooking utensils to clothes, tools and toys - these products are desperately needed to run charities' services and for them to give to their beneficiaries.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced leader with the gravitas and charisma to convince companies and individuals to support the work of In Kind, and to lead and inspire an experienced senior team. You will be a critical thinker with the data skills to analyse what is required to deliver particular solutions, which both drive the business forward as well as the ability to measure the effectiveness of initiatives and activities.

Working closely with the CEO, Board and Senior Management Team, the COO will be responsible for strategic planning, day-to-day operations and supporting all aspects of In Kind Direct's work. Like the Chief Executive, the day-to-day role is most closely aligned to the Goods Donation/Fundraising Team.

The Person

  • A proven leader with broad, commercial sales, ecommerce, marketing or fundraising background
  • A critical thinker with the data skills to analyse what data is required to get to a particular solution
  • A results oriented individual, comfortable with analytics and measuring the effectiveness of initiatives and activities
  • Experience of managing a senior team with ability to enthuse and inspire all staff
  • Bring innovative, creative ideas to the organisation; inspiring the team with fresh ideas
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, keep calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability and enthusiasm for both taking a strategic overview and working operationally which is required given the small size of the charity - 19 people
  • Ability to present/communicate strategic and creative ideas to internal and external audiences and at very senior levels in a confident and eloquent manner.
