The Opportunity
Our Food & Drink Buyers are highly focused on promotions and pricing, creating attractive deals and using strategic vision, especially when it comes to healthy eating and seasonal confectionery. They have driven the success of our new Food to Go and Coffee House offerings leading to continuous growth for the category.

We are now seeking an experienced Buyer to manage our Coffee category. This is a multimillion pound turnover category that is a future growth area for our Travel Business! Reporting to the Head of Trading – Food & Drink this role will be responsible for driving forward our Coffee offering across WHSmith Travel stores.


What you’ll do
As a Buyer you’ll be accountable for the Coffee categories growth and development. Get it right and you can really make an impact; and that could catapult your career onto a whole new level. You’ll need to analyse data and spot trends, whilst building strategic relationships with global and niche brands in the industry to negotiate great deals. With commercial thinking and ingenuity, you’ll create new ranges, appropriate pricing and sales-boosting strategies to deliver profitable ranges and drive year on year growth. There are over 100 locations to manage, ensuring all have the appropriate brand and offer to drive sales and growth for the range. As well as the above you will have the scope to really shape and mould our Coffee offering, from managing projects to developing propositions and format development across the Travel estate.

Who we’re looking for
You will ideally be from a hospitality / FMCG buying background, and must have coffee buying experience and hospitality operational expertise. With your expertise you’ll drive the growth of this category holding accountability for revenue, sales, margin and income. Previous project management / format development skills would also be nice to have.

We’re looking for someone who is creative, but also commercial, with a head for figures, as this area’s data-driven. Knowledge of Profit & Loss and supplier management is essential. Our Food & Drink categories have grown significantly over the past few years. Therefore you’ll need to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be looking for a role that has the scope to develop and make a real impact. If you’re analytical, calm and articulate, you could be the ideal fit.
