Supermarkets and their Suppliers are familiar with a term called ‘GSCOP’. It stands for ‘A Complete Understanding of the Groceries Supply Code of Practice’. This is a set of regulations governed by UK Law to help the Supermarkets and their Suppliers to work together more fairly.

A former Sainsbury’s buyer has written a book to help Suppliers understand GSCOP because buyers are required to be trained by law, suppliers are not.

These are the shocking facts of GSCOP

  • 76% of suppliers do not understand the Code (Source: GCA Annual Survey 2015).

  • Iceland have the worst compliance code record.

  • A Groceries Code adjudicator was appointed with the power to fine a supermarket up to 1% of sales. This could be up to £500m for Tesco!

In his book Darren A. Smith helps Suppliers to understand GSCOP because, as he puts it, it’s ok not going the details of the off-side rule, unless you’re a footballer!

Darren covers why GSCOP has been born, how it came to life over the last 15 years, the details that Suppliers need to know, the pitfalls of GSCOP, why Suppliers need to know it and how they can use it.

The book is available from October 2015 and can be bought for £9.95 as an eBook or a printed copy. To find out more checkout GSCOP.
