LOGISTICS MANAGER: JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will be responsible for providing leadership for Finished Goods handling and dispatch activities and liaises with Production, Warehouse, Quality and Planning and Customer depots to ensure work is planned and executed with a strong sense of urgency to meet the delivery targets.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Source hauliers with Directors
  • Review SAP on a regular basis for open sales orders.
  • Accountable for OTIF (On time in full)
  • Book transport with the customer in accordance with their policy and lead times.
  • Ensure hauliers are picked in accordance with pricing matrix, if outside inform relevant staff member.
  • Ensure that fixed time slots are always adhered to by the customer.
  • Non-compliance requires communication with customer contact to change times to those that have been agreed.
  • Liaising with hauliers in accordance with pricing matrix set by senior management.
  • Ensuring pick lists are printed & delivery notes are printed for Goods Out Administrator.
  • Liaising with hauliers to ensure that vehicles are arriving on a timely basis.
  • Liaising with hauliers to ensure that there are no traffic delays on route.
  • Delays or tipping issues to be communicated to the customer to ensure unloading or rebooking occurs on a timely basis.
  • Failure on customers not adhering to fixed time slots, untimely unloading, hauliers not arriving at on time, demurrage charges need to be communicated at weekly meetings.
  • The above to be presented in an OTIF report format as per weekly meeting which can also be used for customer presentations.
  • Control of gate house to ensure that goods in vehicles are waiting in the que as per their desired time slot as per goods in schedule.
  • Question visitors to see if they have a pre-booked appointment with management.
  • Train goods out administrator to conduct above role when absent.
  • Under instruction of maintenance and logistics supervisor to ensure that wastage is removed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure rules and regulations of VOSA and reporting is carried out within guidelines and timeframes.
  • Provide Driver’s weekly route daily by 10am sharp every morning.
  • Pallet reporting as per excel schedule.
  • Adherence to call out policy.

Other areas of responsibilities:

  • Ensure goods are picked correctly and have been rewrapped if necessary, to avoid pallet destabilisation.
  • Ensure the above is carried out in advance before haulier arrives to avoid loading delays.
  • Blockages to be inexcusable if the above is carried out proficiently.
  • Ensure FLTs are loading efficiently on arrival of vehicles within timescale of 30 minutes.
  • Ensure that all loads before leaving site are strapped and stable.
  • Ensure that all delivery notes are signed and thereafter filed in the appropriate manner.
  • Ensure the warehouse is kept in a tidy manner and is clear of pesticides.
  • Trailers to be loaded in advance where possible through use of PPT.
  • During busy period to be prepared to drive FLT.
  • FLT management.
  • Ensuring LPR pallets are going to the correct customers as advised by senior management.
  • In cases where finished goods have been allocated on incorrect pallets, to rewrap finished goods on the correct pallets.
  • If FLTs are busy, then the above to be sent back to production to ensure that pallets are rewrapped accordingly.
  • Ensuring that FLT drivers are stating the colour of pallets on delivery notes.

In addition, other duties at no higher a responsibility level may be interchanged with/added to this list at any time.
