Zachary Daniels are delighted to be working with a highly regarded retailer based in East Midlands/South Yorkshire area, who are looking to appoint a Senior Buyer-Home into the team with experience of Homewares & Soft Furnishing categories

Our client is a multi channel retailer, with a bold and ambitious new business strategy.That is why we are on the lookout for a Senior Buyer to join the Buying team and help us grow the Homeware and Soft Furnishing category. Product development and range selection is a key element to the role, as well as being well aware of developments in the wider Homewares market.

Having a methodical approach, a good eye for detail and a passion for product is a key part of being a Buyer, as well as spotting current trends and building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.

Your responsibilities will include to:

  • Identify and source (from the UK and overseas) ranges which drive the sales and margin performance of the category
  • Identify, order and manage the supply of "Promotional" product which drives "freshness" for customers
  • Building a long term sourcing and trading strategy
  • Developing new product specs with our Design team
  • Drive Innovation in the ranges by keeping up to date with product and packaging developments and competitor activities and bringing a sense of creativity to the role.
  • Plan launches to meet key seasonal deadlines. This involves working closely with Suppliers and internal teams (Merchandisers, Technologists, Marketing, and Design) to ensure product launches are smooth.
  • Build Ranges to make the best use of the space available in our stores.
  • Drive Multi-channel - to ensure that sales are maximised through all the available channels to customers.
  • Actively "trade" your category to maximise sales on a weekly basis. To do this you will keep right up to date on the performance of products (and competitor activities) and take pricing, promotion, merchandising and marketing actions to drive sales.

The candidate:

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Curious, daring and prepared to make change happen speedily, yet delivering to target.
  • Extensive commercial acumen with a proven track record of delivering results and financial targets.
  • Experience of negotiating with suppliers and building strong strategic supplier relationships.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Assertive and confident and able to quickly build a high level of personal and professional credibility within the business, demonstrating strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Work effectively in collaboration cross-functionally to achieve shared goals and deliver business objectives
