In this role you will join a growing and changing business and play a key part in ensuring the progressive procurement strategy delivers the business ambition – both in GB and internationally. Yes, they want costs savings, to maximise value and deliver outstanding service across the organisation, but this is also an opportunity to help shape the procurement approach and team, influence the executives and grow business maturity in understanding and addressing commercial risks. In this new role, you will own and manage a diverse set of contracts with an annual value of £19m, from managing the expanding external supply chain as well as getting involved in cutting edge technology projects. As deputy to the Head of Procurement, you will also play a key role in developing and mentoring the wider team – and lead on cross-business initiatives and innovative sourcing solutions that drive success. 

Key responsibilities include:

Truly knowing all aspects of procurement, you will understand and identify the trends within the market, work with key suppliers and support key stakeholders to deliver value and innovative solutions that will achieve business success. You will influence and give advice to senior level stakeholders, including Directors, to ensure business alignment with overall procurement strategy, and increase business maturity in understanding and managing relevant commercial and operational risks. You will lead on negotiations to ensure the best value and business outcomes are achieved in terms of cost and performance. 

Your analytical and methodical approach will enable you to interpret financial models and analyse market and industry data to develop and implement relevant category strategies which fulfil business strategy. You will confidently be able to articulate and recommend strategic sourcing options, tactics, implementation plans, commercial supply risks, whilst ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements. In summary, you will be influencing the whole end to end process.

The role will be pivotal in ensuring financial savings and performance improvements are made through a strategic and integrated approach to how we manage and work with our suppliers alongside the internal business stakeholders.

You will support the Head of Procurement in developing and leading the team in order to meet the commercial challenges that lie ahead including responding to our changing external environment and supporting international markets. 

What you will need to demonstrate:

  • In depth category management knowledge and managing procurement spend
  • Strong knowledge of procurement and commercial operations, analytics and reporting
  • Maintaining and strengthening existing relationships with key suppliers
  • Experience in a complex environment with a high level of interface with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers
  • Demonstrable influencing and negotiation skills, working with key stakeholders including strategic suppliers
  • An excellent track record in motivating and leading a team
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • MCIPS qualified
  • Public Sector procurement experience - OJEU
  • Identifying and managing commercial and business risks
