Logistics & Distribution Manager

Full Time post

Salary Negotiable up to circa £35k (depending on experience) Contributory Pension + other insurances/benefits package.

Location - Frankley, Birmingham (B45)

Since our formation in 2002 Base Group, has built its reputation around its core competencies, the manufacture of styling, modelling and tooling materials, to produce high quality, precision moulds, master models, jigs, fixtures, supported with a range of complimentary ancillaries, predominantly for the Formula 1, Automotive and Aerospace industries. Our main product range includes:

o Epoxy Pattern & Tooling Materials

o Polyurethane Styling, Model & Tooling Materials

o Near Net Shape Casting

o Ancillary Products including Surface Coatings & Release Agents

As part of our ongoing Growth Plan, we are seeking to broaden our internal expertise through the appointment of a Logistics & Distribution Manager; a newly scoped and pivotal role. This will be an excellent opportunity for the right person to truly make their mark. This role will suit someone from an SME Manufacturing background who is passionate about delivering results through great Warehouse & Logistics Management.

We have strategically located warehouses/facilities to ensure we are able to meet the increasing demand for our products, UK and Worldwide.

Your ultimate goal is to organise the storage and distribution of our goods. You’ll ensure that the right products are delivered to the right location on time and in the most cost-effective manner, whilst strictly adhering to any relevant government legislation and company policy.

IN DETAIL …

Understanding the whole supply chain will be important and you will be experienced in freight forwarding / transport, stock control and warehouse management. Your experience will enable you to work closely with customers and suppliers to analyse logistical problems and produce new solutions.

  • Manage the UK freight and through analysis of past data, optimise the transportation, drive the costs down and improve overall efficiency in this area
  • Ensure delivery targets are met without compromise to safety and quality in the most cost-effective way
  • Implement effective strategy, policies and procedures to ensure the Warehouse & Logistics run efficiently in relation to both cost and resource.
  • Manage the team, including planning / delegating tasks and monitoring work levels. To be competent in all delegated tasks to ensure effective and fair allocation of tasks within the team.
  • Identify skills gaps, train and develop team members to ensure maximum productivity, quality and performance. Coaching and mentoring where appropriate.
  • To devise, implement and produce a suitable monthly report covering performance agreed relevant metrics.
  • Proactively Contribute to the regular SMT Meetings
  • Responsibility for review and timely negotiation on key contracts specific to the logistics operation (temporary staff resource, forklifts, couriers etc)
  • To ensure that all agreed service levels are being measured, delivered and reported in an accurate and timely way
  • Direct line management of Warehouse Operatives in Frankley including performance management, discipline, absence management, staff motivation and engagement.
  • Total Warehouse Management
  • Proactive Resource Management (Plant/Equipment/People)
  • Satellite Warehouse Management including Stocking / Replenishment
  • Consignment Stock Management
  • Inventory Management - liaise closely with Sales & Production
  • Stock Rotation
  • Proactively drive through Continuous Improvement initiatives in your functional areas and implement / embed through Lean methodologies (eg Kanban/5S/6 Sigma) within the constraints of legislation, fuel costs and rising environmental pressures
  • Liaise and negotiate with customers and suppliers on freight rates
  • Work on new supply strategies
  • Ensure H&S policies are adhered to at all times, by all employees within your responsibility

Key Personal Attributes / Behavioural Competencies

- Proven track record of warehouse management within an SME Manufacturing or Industrial environment

- IT literate - experience in ERP systems and Warehouse Management would be a distinct advantage

- Supply Chain Professional qualification would be highly advantageous such as Level 5 IoSCM or equivalent

- Being well versed in the requirements of transportation of Dangerous goods by Road, Sea and Air will be a distinct advantage

- MHE Licenses would be a distinct advantage

- A positive and professional attitude

- Strong decision making and accountability

- Strong-willed and independent, confident to challenge Directors / Senior Management

- Agile approach to getting things done

- Logical and systematic approach to work

- Ability to Solve problems and make decisions as well as think laterally and offer creative solutions
