We are looking for someone who can lead on providing a great visitor experience and help us run our operations efficiently. If this sounds like you please read on.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

What it's like to work here

Based here in this warm and luxuriant garden, you can follow in the footsteps of the 1920s plant hunters to see plants that flowered in Britain for the first time. Award-winning magnolias are still nurtured at Trengwainton by those with a passion for their beauty and five sections of walled gardens are crammed with tender exotic species from around the world. There’s also a kitchen garden built to the dimensions of Noah’s Ark and a cosy shop complete with wood burner for those chilly days.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for the visitor welcome, visitor experience and commercial aspects of the day to day management at Trengwainton Garden and Penzance Welcome Centre. Leading the staff and volunteer team in these areas you will provide engaging and inspiring visitor experience, and help us do more in future by running our business operations efficiently. Through providing an inspiring visitor experience you will help engage our visitors and encourage them to actively support our cause.

Who we're looking for

This job is about providing a service. To be fantastic in this role, you’ll need to: have the following;

  • Significant knowledge of running visitor business and multi departmental unit
  • Proven track record of managing budgets, finances, small projects and contracts
  • Excellent coaching, team management, motivation and communication skills
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Significant experience of managing operational risk, including how to assess and manage risk effectively
