Job Title: Buyer
Location: Stafford
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 (dependent on experience) + Bonus
Summary of Position:
Our client, a family business that is punching above their weight, supply the pharmaceutical industry across the UK and they are now looking for a Buyer to join their team. The Buyer will be expected to improve their supply chain to achieve better buying prices by sourcing direct from manufacturers where practical. Visit trade shows to find suppliers, negotiate, and get new product ideas and develop them as directed. Source non-stock enquiries, obtain quotes and relay consequent selling prices and details promptly to sales force. Continue to build a constitution in your department of being an efficient, happy, accurate, tidy team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research to establish best suppliers to give us a competitive edge
- Visit and audit overseas suppliers, building good B2B relationships
- Negotiate better deals including exclusivity deals where possible
- Identify good new lines and turn them into reality
- Get Patents registered as required by management
- Manage any faulty products and take up with suppliers where necessary
- Source & quote for special order item requests.
- Maintain system to record what quoted for, suppliers details & pictures/samples of products to make further quoting/sourcing faster
- Oversee Data Sheets etc, request from suppliers, arrange to make into our standard format where necessary
- Update systems with changes of pack size, description, real costs etc and communicate changes to relevant departments
- Visit trade shows including occasional overseas events - 10-12 short trips within first year
Performance Objectives:
- Achieve 15% savings on core lines, without dropping the quality
- Provide specials quotes within 24 hours for 70% of requests (and remainder within 7 days)
- Source new products with a minimum unit sales value of £25 and potential of £100,000 annual sales within 3 years
- Build relationships with suppliers so that they want to look after us, & get exclusivity deals on product

Skills, Experience & Attributes:
Essential:
- Culture fit - Honesty, Integrity, Trust
- Excellent negotiation experience
- Purchasing experience - understands oversees purchasing
- Drivers licence and own transport
Desirable:
- Experience working with medical packaging / packaging industries
- Experience registering patents
Hours of work: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday, except Wednesday’s 7:15am - 4:30pm
