Head of Supply Chain, Land Systems

General Dynamics has had a presence in the UK for 50 years, employs 1,000 staff across 7 sites and a £440m turnover across Mission Systems and Land Systems. Based near Cardiff, the Land Systems division employs 500 staff, who are engaged in the delivery of a £3.5bn contract to design, manufacture, test and supply finished vehicles to UK MoD. GDUK usually acts as a prime contractor and complex systems integrator and it is part of the US based GD Group, employing 90,000 with revenues of $31.5bn.

The role

  • Reporting to the VP of LS (with a dotted reporting line to the Global Head of Supply Chain in the US), lead and manage the entire UK LS supply chain function.
  • Establish a world class supply chain function at the new facility, as part of this exciting period or growth and development. Lead, manage and develop the team of 20 spanning planning, purchasing, procurement, account management, logistics, warehousing and stores.
  • Introduce best practice supply chain policies, procedures and systems in support of high-profile development programmes and wider business strategy.

The person

  • A strong track record as a senior supply chain manager, leading a complex supply chain within a related, high contract value manufacturing business such as defence & aerospace.
  • Comfortable engaging and building relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Understanding of best practice supply chain management and experience of leading and developing these functional teams.
  • High drive, with energy and resilience. Well-developed influencing, negotiation and collaboration skills.
