From staplers to ships, the SSC's Procurement Team meets clients' incredibly diverse sourcing requirements. For example we have made significant savings on laboratory equipment and have secured a contract in record time to build a new vessel for oceanographic research. In fact, using principles of category and project management, the SSC made savings amounting to 25 million in the last financial year alone.
We have been widely recognised for our success in bringing together the procurement requirements of the Research Councils and we are now increasingly engaged in activities beyond our existing client base. This means that we are growing, and looking for talented procurement professionals to join our team
As Senior Procurement Specialist you will take leadership and be accountable for supplier and contract management of high value outsourced services, account management of senior clients and the provision of a professional commercial contract management service to the external client. You will also have line management responsibilities for several contract managers.
You will manage large and complex national contracts on behalf of the client (government department), developing close co-operative relationships with regional and centrally located customers in order to:
leverage their expertise
understand local market conditions
support their specific aims and objectives
deliver value adding services and agreements.
As an important point of contact you must use your knowledge and experience to meet client service levels for both the outsourced service and for the SSC contract management service. This will include financial savings, customer satisfaction, supplier performance, timely response to client queries and frequent supplier reviews.
Effective performance management is key, monitoring measures of supplier activity by developing processes and regularly reviewing performance against Key Performance Indicators, delivery targets, business plans and budgets. It is essential you drive and monitor continuous supplier improvement; use of value analysis / value engineering tools and techniques.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have experience of managing contracts in both the set-up and management of ongoing services as well as experience in supplier assessment and development. It is essential you have experience in the analysis of financial data and monitoring budgets and forecasts utilising strong advanced Excel skills.
