Packaging Technologist / Development within leading UK Food FMCG manufacturer, currently heavily investing in continued growth and development of its best practice purchasing and technical packaging department. MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE OF: PLAIN / PRINTED POLYPROPYLENE, CASES, CARTONS; Ideally also - Vacuum Formed Trays & Tins
Role:
Packaging Technologist / Development, reporting to the Head of Packaging Procurement, working collaboratively with Group Purchasing, Factory General Managers, Packaging Technical, Site Engineering and key internal Stakeholders, you will be responsible for the following remit:
- Basic specification management, including checking the quality of information and packaging specification upkeep.
- Raising and managing Key-Line drawings for each material
- Directing and driving Packaging trials on production lines.
- Alternative Supplier evaluation - trials
- Transit Tests preparation and support
- Supplier Monitoring
- Trouble shooting on line and corrective action plans
- Input to Retailer Packaging specifications
- NPD - innovation
- Rationalisation of materials
- Facilitating delivery of wider Buying targets & support delivery of saving targets
- Driving specification rationalisation exercise through sub-categories, prioritising corrugated cases, film & cartons
- Delivering Continuous Improvement to Packaging Technical function & ensure all sites maintain standards on Packaging
- Overseeing population of data by suppliers & ensure the business builds complete database for all material purchased.
- Supporting capex projects involving packaging equipment at all sites, to ensure equipment projects are sympathetic to Central Buying & wider business objectives
- Participate in, research, recommend and implement any sustainable sourcing initiatives that meet CSR policy requirements.
- Keep abreast of industry & regulatory developments & evaluate potential impact
- Identifying opportunities in supply chain to improve waste performance by removing material, down gauging or re-designing packs whilst ensuring maximum optimised performance throughout the whole supply chain
- Assist with (or conduct) new supplier approval audits where applicable
Requirements:
- MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE OF: PLAIN / PRINTED POLYPROPYLENE, CASES, CARTONS; Ideally also - Vacuum Formed Trays & Tins
- Demonstrable experience within an FMCG organisation, preferably food; retail customer facing experience especially advantageous
- Previous experience within Packaging Development & Packaging Technology
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent numeracy & IT skills, including Microsoft Office package, specifically Excel, along with Apple Mac & Adobe Illustrator CS
- Proven track record of working within FMCG sector in a similar capacity
- People management experience is desirable
- Ability to prioritise work under pressure
